【Research】First observation of neutrino interaction candidates at the LHC – A new perspective on neutrino experiments –
ForwArd Search ExpeRiment at the LHC (FASER), an international collaboration involving KMI’s Toshiyuki Nakano, Mitsuhiro Nakamura, Hiroki Rokujo, and Osamu Sato has successfully observed neutrino reaction candidates from the LHC, the world’s highest energy collider.
This result shows that the FASER experiment is indeed useful in the study of TeV-scale neutrinos. This achievement uses the nuclear emulsion technology developed by Nagoya University’s F Lab, which highlights the high mobility in equipment installation and development.
The results of this research were published in “Physical Review D” on November 24, 2021.

There could be new discoveries at the new frontier. Here the observation of neutrino interaction candidates from LHC is reported and it opened the door to study neutrino interactions at un-explored energy (sub-TeV to TeV) region.
We are looking forward to seeing the outcome from the FASER experiment run in 2022-2024. The nuclear emulsion techniques developed at Nagoya University acts as a key role of neutrino detection and the analysis. – Osamu Sato
