It is with great sadness that KMI shares the news of the passing of Toshihide Maskawa, Professor Emeritus of Nagoya University, on July 23, 2021.

Maskawa was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2008, then he became the first Director of the Kobayashi-Maskawa Institute for the Origin of Particles and the Universe (KMI) from 2010 to 2018. Afterwards, Maskawa continued to mentor KMI from a broad perspective, as Director Emeritus. Remembering his inspiring words, we continue to explore basic research in particle physics and astrophysics.
