Title: Applications of conformal bootstrap in physic
Place: ES635 & ZOOM
Abstract: Many people dream that someday they can solve the three-dimensional Ising model by finding a hidden symmetry. As for the critical three-dimensional Ising model, the symmetry is not hidden but it is just the conformal symmetry, which is ubiquitous in critical phenomena. What we had not known was how useful it is and how to use it. Now we know the bootstrap is the way to go. The recently developed idea of conformal bootstrap has revolutionized our understanding of critical phenomena over decades. We believe most of the critical phenomena like the three-dimensional critical Ising model are severely constrained and can be even solved by using the conformal bootstrap. In this colloquium, I will discuss several interesting applications of conformal field theories and conformal bootstrap to the Heisenberg magnet, chiral symmetry in QCD, and conformal technicolor.
