Akira Okumura (KMI, Nagoya Univ.)

The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is the next-generation gamma-ray observatory to be completed in 2020s. CTA will be comprised of about 100 Cherenkov telescopes with three different mirror diameters to achieve a wide energy coverage of 20 GeV–300 TeV, which will be deployed in the northern and southern CTA sites. The CTA Nagoya group has been actively involved in the development of three CTA prototype telescopes, all of them achieved gamma-ray detection or air-shower first light in last one year. I will briefly summarize some of physics motivations, prototype status, and future prospects of CTA.
