KMI Science Symposia (ES635)

Did you know Dr. Shin’ichiro Tomonaga wrote about a role of professional science communicators in 1948 which is immediately after the second world war? Although he did not use terms such as a science communicator or a public relations officer, I totally agree with his words. Even today, few people can explain the role of a public relations officer at research institutes. Is he or she a science writer? Yes and no. Is he or she an event planner? Yes, and no. In this talk, I will talk about what I learned about science communication in this ten years along with my mentors’ words including Tomonaga’s, and discuss my personal yet hopefully universal view of a science communicator based on my experience.
