By the<br \/>\nAdS\/CFT correspondence, they correspond to superstring and M-theory<br \/>\npartition functions in certain AdS backgrounds. In this talk I will<br \/>\nsummarize the different methods that have been developed to study the<br \/>\nmatrix models at large N, and then I will explain the implications for<br \/>\nM-theory and superstrings.
