Although its existence has been confirmed through astronomical observations, its true nature remains a mystery. Since it is highly likely to be an unknown elementary particle, uncovering the identity of dark matter is one of the major challenges spanning both astrophysics and particle physics.<\/p>\n<p>At KMI, we have pursued a wide range of research efforts to explore the nature of dark matter. These include theoretical studies from a cosmological perspective, observations of gamma rays generated by dark matter annihilation, detection of nuclear recoils caused by dark matter in detectors, and searches for dark matter produced in accelerator experiments.<\/p>\n<p>To foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among these and other dark matter research efforts worldwide, we established the Dark Matter International Research Center in April 2025.
