Visitors from\u00a0countries or regions for visa exemption<\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">No visa is necessary to enter Japan unless the visitor receives rewards or salaries (excluding travel expenses) during their stay in Japan. \u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><span>2. Visitors from\u00a0other countries or regions<\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">A short-term visa is necessary to enter Japan. \u00a0Follow the procedures below. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Send\u00a0<u>a copy of your passport<\/u>\u00a0and\u00a0<u>itinerary<\/u> to KMI Office at least one month before the day you plan to enter Japan. KMI Office <span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.8px\">\u00a0issues and sends documents which you need to submit to\u00a0Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General in your home country.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Submit them with other necessary documents to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General with jurisdiction over your place of residence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">3. Exemption of Visa (Short-Term Stay)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"> <\/span><\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"main-section section\">\n<div class=\"section-block image-section-top\">\n<div class=\"text\">\n<div class=\"any-area\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">As of April 2020, Japan has taken measures concerning the Visa Exemption Arrangements with 68 countries and regions as the chart below.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Nationals and citizens of those countries and regions shown below are not required to obtain visas to enter Japan when their visits are tourism, commerce, conferences, visiting relatives\/ acquaintances, etc. However, when foreign nationals engage in paid activities in Japan, or their periods of stay exceed those stipulated in each country\u2019s arrangement of short-term stay, visas will be required to enter Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">4. Period of Stay<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">The period of stay granted at the time of the landing permission will be &#8220;15 days&#8221; for Brunei, Indonesia, and Thailand, and &#8220;30 days&#8221; for United Arab Emirates and &#8220;90 days&#8221; for other countries and regions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">In the following countries\/regions, visa exemption measures have been temporarily suspended until the end of April 2020, except for shaded countries (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mofa.go.jp\/j_info\/visit\/visa\/short\/novisa.html#notice10\">Note 10<\/a>), as a border measures against novel coronavirus Those who do not hold such ePassport are advised to obtain a visa in advance, otherwise will be strictly examined and may be refused entry to Japan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"none\" id=\"notice03\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">(Note 3) For citizens of Hong Kong, visas are not required only for holders of Special Administrative Region (SAR) passport issued by the Hong Kong SAR of the People\u2019s Republic of China or British National Overseas (BNO) passports who have the right of residence in Hong Kong.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"none\" id=\"notice04\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">(Note 4) For citizens of Macao, visas are not required only for holders of SAR passport issued by the Macao SAR of the People\u2019s Republic of China.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"none\" id=\"notice05\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">(Note 5) For citizens of Taiwan, visas are not required only for holders of Taiwan passport which includes a personal identification number.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"none\" id=\"notice06\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">(Note 6) For nationals of Barbados (since April 1, 2010), Turkey (since April 1, 2011) and Lesotho (since April 1, 2010), visas are not required only for holders of Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) or ePassport in compliance with ICAO standards. Those who do not hold an MRP or ePassport are advised to obtain a visa in advance, otherwise will be strictly examined and may be refused entry to Japan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"none\" id=\"notice07\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">(Note 7) For nationals of those countries with visa exemptions permitting stays of up to 6 months under the bilateral visa exemption arrangements, those who wish to stay in Japan for more than 90 days are required to apply for an extension of the period of stay to the Ministry of Justice (Regional Immigration Bureau) before the period of permitted stay is to expire.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"none\" id=\"notice08\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">(Note 8) For nationals of the United Arab Emirates (since July 1, 2017), visas are not required only for those who have registered ICAO-compliant ePassport to diplomatic missions of Japan (the embassy, consulates-general, or the consulate).
